Taming Complexity in Partial Differential Systems

at Vienna University of Technology, University of Vienna, and IST Austria

The Doctoral Program provides a top-level doctoral program in Applied Mathematics, Numerical Mathematics, and Stochastics in the exciting and dynamic scientific environment of Vienna. We invite applications for 23 doctoral positions, funded by the Doctoral Program on Dissipation and Dispersion in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and the Special Research Program Taming Complexity in Partial Differential Systems.

The positions are based on regular working contracts including social security, awarded for up to 3 years, starting from March – October 2017. Remuneration is based on the salary scheme of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). A fourth year may be financed in case of an international research stay of 6 months.

We are looking for ambitious, excellent students holding or being close to a master degree or equivalent in Mathematics or related fields. All applications should be written in English or German and sent by e-mail, containing a single pdf file as attachment with

  • filled application form,
  • the curriculum vitae,
  • copies of a master certificate or equivalent,
  • a study track record (list of all courses with your marks),
  • optional: recommendation letters,
  • a statement of the scientific interests related to the offered PhD projects.
Applications can be submitted anytime. The next selection will be made starting from 30 September 2017.

The Doctoral School aims to promote excellent female students. Our aim is to engage at least 40 % female students. Therefore, female graduates are particularly encouraged to apply for the doctoral program.
